چکیده

Six nominal taxa ('Lacerta' monticola cantabrica, 'L. ' monücola monticola, 'L. ' aranica, 'L. ' aurelioi, 'L. ' bonnali, 'L. ' cyreni) of the Iberian-Pyrenean Mountain Lizards were investigated by allozyme electrophoresis with regard to IS enzymatic loci. 'L. ' horvathi was used as an outgroup for phylogenetic analysis. On the basts of our results which are in perfect agreement with karyological data (ODIERNA & al. in press a, b) five taxa can be distinguished ('£.'. monticola, 'L'. aranica, 'L'. aurelioi, 'L'. bonnali, %'. cyreni) which we consider to be species.

Altitudinal Barrier to the Spread of an Invasive Species: Could the Pyrenean Chain Slow the Natural Spread of the Pinewood Nematode?

Mountain ranges may delimit the distribution of native species as well as constitute potential barriers to the spread of invasive species. The invasive pinewood nematode, Bursaphelenchus xylophilus, is a severe forest pest inducing pine wilt disease. It is vectored in Europe by a native long-horned beetle, Monochamus galloprovincialis. This study explored the potential of the Pyrenean chain to ...

On the verge of extinction: genetics of the critically endangered Iberian plant species, Borderea chouardii (Dioscoreaceae) and implications for conservation management.

Borderea chouardii is a relictual and dioecious, strictly sexually reproducing, long-living geophyte of the Dioscoreaceae family. Previous biological and demographic studies have indicated the existence of a uniformly distributed panmictic population of this taxon at the southernmost Spanish pre-Pyrenean mountain ranges where it occurs in rather inaccessible crevices of a single limestone cliff...

Phylogeographical and speciation patterns in subterranean worm lizards of the genus Blanus (Amphisbaenia: Blanidae).

The peculiar lifestyle of subterranean reptiles must determine their modes of speciation and diversification. To further understand the evolutionary biology of subterranean reptiles, we studied the phylogeny of worm lizards of the genus Blanus and the phylogeography of its Iberian representatives. We used mitochondrial (ND4 and 16S rRNA) and nuclear (anonymous) partial gene sequences to resolve...

A new species of Synagapetus from Spain with a key for the identification of the Iberian and Pyrenean species (Trichoptera: Glossosomatidae).

A new species of the caddisfly genus Synagapetus from central Spain is described and figured: Synagapetus vettonicus sp. n. Males of the new species are close to S. placidus and S. marlierorum, but the new species is well characterized by a combination of genitalic characteristics, especially those concerning the shape of the superior and inferior appendages. Additionally we provide a taxonomic...

Genetic Differentiation among Mountain Island Populations of the Striped Plateau Lizard, Sceloporus virgatus (Squamata: Phrynosomatidae)

We used DNA sequences from several mitochondrial regions (ND2, ND4, and adjacent tRNAs) to examine genetic structure and divergence among populations of the Striped Plateau Lizard, Sceloporus virgatus. In the northern portion of this species’ range, populations occupy mesic habitats at higher elevations in the mountain ranges of the Madrean Archipelago, and are thus isolated by dry, inhospitabl...
